Westfield Center Concert Scholar Program

The Westfield Concert Scholar award, given annually, is a three-concert tour designed to give talented young keyboard players an opportunity to perform on excellent instruments located throughout the country. The award is based on the concept of "student mentoring" and experiential learning, and as such, is intended to develop the student's skills as a performer and also his or her ability to meet and successfully interact with people in a professional and social context. It is assumed that the studio teacher will 1) help with program selection and preparation, 2) discuss stage etiquette, 3) discuss the student's role as a Westfield ambassador, 4) remind the student to communicate with and thank the sponsoring individuals.

Westfield Concert Scholars are nominated by Westfield Center members, and selected by vote of the Board of Directors at their May meeting. The nominee must be a full time student currently enrolled in an
undergraduate or graduate program in keyboard performance who plays organ, harpsichord, clavichord, or fortepiano.

Transportation for the Westfield Concert Scholar is made possible through the generous support of The John Ernest Foundation, Palo Alto, CA.

The three Hosting venues are expected to supply room and board and opportunities for the scholar to interact with other students and faculty. The scholar will receive a written document regarding the engagements and his or her responsibilities.

Further details of the nomination and selection process for the 2008-9 Concert Scholar will be announced in Westfield, the monthly e-newsletter of the Westfield Center.

The 2007-8 Concert Scholars are Emanuele Battisti (organ) and Frédéric Lacroix (fortepiano).
